Mater is a good ol' boy with a big heart and the only tow truck in Radiator Springs. Mater runs Tow-Mater Towing and Salvage and manages the local impound lot. He is the self-proclaimed "World's Best Backwards Driver" and his lifelong dream is to ride in a helicopter.

Cars - Mater

The character Mater was first inspired by an old, rusty truck seen on a vacant lot in Galena, KS. This is the original 1951 International L-170 Series "boom" truck. The extra-long boom was probably used used to lift equipment out of local area mines.
